Etching & Sandblasting

Etched glass door surrounds were a common feature in Victorian homes of the 1870s & 1880s.
These were often created using blue or red ‘flashed’ handmade glass.

Etching or Sandblasting is a process where the surface of the glass is masked off with a resist, the design drawn and cut and exposed glass surface is then sandblasted to create a frosted surface on either clear or coloured glass.

Sandblasting has replaced the more dangerous technique of Acid Etching.

Etched glass door surrounds were a common feature in many Victorian homes of the 1870’s and 1880’s.  These were often done using blue or red ‘flashed’ handmade glass. This glass was made with a very thin layer of colour over the base of clear glass. When the colour is removed it reveals a frosted clear surface that defines the pattern.

Adadaz can faithfully re-create etched glass to match original designs.
