The Gothic Revival led by A.W. N. Pugin in the late 1830’s and The Arts and Crafts movement led by John Ruskin and William Morris in the 1860’s were two important influences in the design of windows.

Victorian windows often featured hand painted and stained glass. This may be found in the borders as decorative scrollwork or as feature of the window depicting birds, flowers or in grander windows, figures clad in classical or medieval dress.

Handspun pieces of glass called rondels were a popular design feature as was the use of faceted glass jewels.
